Blues, Booze & BBQ
Photographs by: Michael Loyd Young
Foreword by: David Alan Harvey
My selection as this years winner,BLUES, BOOZE AND BBQ, by Michael Lloyd
Young, is an example of a book that combines the past and present of the
lively heritage of good times as seen the food, music and drink of the
region. Young's book shows the multi-dimensional quality of a music culture
that survives in juke joints, roadhouses and festivals that cuts across the
lines of age and race, all- the -while demonstrating that the blues
represents an ongoing living tradition in Mississippi. His color photographs
capture both quiet behind -the- scenes moments and the lively infectious
vitality of the music and audiences that have come to make the blues a
modern timeless American music, one that will forever be deeply rooted in
the soil of Mississippi.
